Academic Language Week 16 - Adult Interview

There should be more restriction on credit card use. Part of the reason that we should have more restrictions is because of the ECONOMY and its current problems. People were borrowing more than their actual INCOME. A lot of people don’t know of the dangers of credit card use since in schools we don’t teach FINANCE as a required course in school. Peoples own lack of knowledge led to one of the greatest recessions of our time. I believe that better education along with more restrictions on the use of credit cards will lead to better financial health and a better nation.

Academic Language Week 15 - Cell Phones

It’s sometimes okay to use your cell phone while you are driving, it just depends. For example, someone calls you and you want to answer it you can just put it on speaker phone. Instead of having one hand on the phone and the other on the steering wheel, which is very dangerous. Another example worse comes to worse you get in a car crash and you have no one around then your phone can your only way to get help. Also, people a day’s have Bluetooth’s to use instead of distracting others when are supposed to paying attention to the road. Therefore like I said it goes both ways.

“Through the Tunnel” Before You Read: Prove Yourself Paragraph

It happened in the beggining of freshman year. I was doing really bad in middle school with grades and behavior and what not, so freshman year I decided that I'm a high school-er know and i have to be more mature and responsible. Therefore i turn it all around and earned above a 3.0 GPA, also i was on the volleyball team. I did it to prove to all the people who were right about me being bad. they were so proud of me. Anyways, towards the end i felt really good because i was doing the right things and everyone was so happy for me. Know that its been over a year i fell bad because i cant get good grades anymore.

“’Typhoid Fever’– Present Tense Childhood Memory.”

It is five in the morning when I hear someone in the house making a lot of noise. It is one of my brothers. He is a big hurry, he was on his way to work. I rolled out of bed to see what he is doing and I sat next to him. He is sitting on the couch, trying to tie his shoes. And me being the little six year old that I am went and got my shoes and put them on with him. He asked me if i was willing to race him, to see who could put our shoes on first. I didn't know how to tie my shoes that well so he let me win. He picked me up and place me with my mom in bed. He gave me a kissed me on my forehead and left.

Dragons' Den First Semester Week 13: Saturday

My favorite thing to do on a Saturday is to being back in LA and hanging out with my best friends. Being there makes me feel really good because it’s thee only place where I like to be and that’s makes me happy. I enjoy this because it is one of the best places I like to be at and it is where I spent the great days of my life. But sometimes it sucks because I know that I don’t live there anymore and I come back to this place and it just makes me feel like I have just wasted three years of my life here, when I could actually be doing something proactive and not messing everything up. Anyways, I do hope to do this again, and again, and again.

Academic Language Week 13 - Video Games

Violent video games do not contribute to youth violence. One reason is that just because kids play them doesn’t mean that are 100 PERCENT more likely to be come violent. So by INTERPRETING this evidence, people all over the world are INVOLVED in violence, so why does it matter if they play violent games or not. They are also still going to be the way that they are, aggressive or aren’t. Also, by playing them it’s probably helping them. Instead of being violent they can just take it out on video games. I rather have them play violent games then take it out of people. Beside most kids play violent games to escape anyways. Therefore violent games don’t contribute to kids acting out in violence.

"The Storyteller" Another Point of View

Dragons' Den First Semester Week 12: Veterans Day

I would never ever enlist in the military. One reason is because I am afraid of dying and if I join I know for sure that I am going to see like a lot of dead people, and possible end up dead, I couldn’t deal with that. Also, I met a person who joined the military and he was never the same. He would hear a noise and he would get a flashback and start worrying because it reminded him of it. Another reason is that I couldn’t stand someone yelling at me for no reason and being ok with it. Lastly, I wouldn’t be able to say “yes sir” after every sentence that would really bother me. Therefore, I do not plan to enroll in the military.

First Person Narrator: House Parent/Lead Staff Point of View

As I walked into the house today, on this beautiful day, I thought that the young ladies in the house need to learn some etiquette. Then, I realized that I try my best to correct them when they curse or when they are disrespectful. But since they are kids, whatever you do to help them out and be more courteous, it won’t work because at the end of the day anything you say to them comes in one ear and out the other. Then again, they are just kids so they do what they want to do. Later I noticed that they are cool kids and I don’t blame them for knowing these things. I know that they all have been dragged all over the place and I get that. So, as I went off shift, I felt like the girls are pleasant to have around.

Question of the Week - Week 11 of First Semester 2011-2012

Student athletes should be required to have good grades in order to play sports. A lot of people love playing sports but they know that they have to have the grades for it. So those kids who like to play but probably can’t because of their bad grades, so this can bring them up.  It also motivates them and keeps up with their grades as well. Also, when kids play sports and have good grades it most likely keeps them out of trouble. Plus having a 2.0 isn’t that hard to get. So, In order to help student athletes, schools should leave it as is with the 2.0 GPA.

    Academic Language Practice Paragaph 10

Doctors are people who CONSENT, and do everything they can to help you not to be sick anymore. Right? Therefore, doctors should be allowed to help critically ill patients end all their pain and suffering. People, who don’t agree, EMPHASIZE that it’s terrible for these ill people but it’s really not. For example, let’s say we have a cat and that cat has a severe heart disease. The doctor says it’s going to die in a few days. Not doing anything, is just going to spend its few day in CRITERIA and pain. So, that’s why doctors should help and let it passes on peacefully. As a result, doctor should be allowed to do this.

Dia de los Muertos, Pick a Person

I plan to make a Dia de los Muertos altar about the marvelous Brittany Anne Murphy-Monjack otherwise know as Brittany Murphy. Brittany was very talented she could model, sing and act. Brittany was born in Georgia in 1977 and died in Los Angeles of 2009. She was known for having pneumonia. She was very thin, thin to the point where there were rumors about a “cocaine addiction.” We may never know if it’s true or not because there is no proof but she says that she has never done or seen that. A few things that I might include in my altar are that she can do some many things at once and yet still be superior. I selected Brittany because like I said, she was extremely talented and has so much faith.

    Academic Language Practice Paragaph 9

Kids and people in general love eating junk food; therefore it’s not a requirement to have it banned. People have the right to eat whatever they want. Also, people make a lot of money by having junk food around. For example, it’s like cigarettes, its bad for people but they won’t make it illegal because it makes good money. Junk food isn’t such a bad thing compared to murder or something; I mean its just food. People have more self control and know how to manage things. Also, if someone misses breakfast or lunch they can just go and get something from the vending machine, and for that reason junk food must not be banned.

    Academic Language Practice Paragaph 8

I believe that the Ten Commandments do not belong in school at all. Religion and school are to different things. Kids come to school to learn about math, science, and so on. To make things easier we can just CATEGORIZE things like, if we needed to learn about the Ten Commandments then you could go to church or something like that, you know. People in some school do CONSUME for people to know about it and that’s ok but when they play the preacher ROLE isn’t cool since they are basically forcing religion down your throat. As a result I hope that in the future people could have some sort of agreement on this and not get offended or anything.

Dia de los Muertos - Article Summary

Dia de los muertos stared of in Mexico and migrated everywhere else. It is believed that this is the time where those who have passed away are allowed to return to earth to visit with their families and friends. This time, on November 1 and 2, people honor those who have died. On this day they usually prepare special foods, and make or give candy. It’s a way of paying respect to those who have left us. Someone once said that “Death is apparent in everyday life. It is in art and even in children's toys. It is not respected as it is in other cultures.” I have lost so many close members; therefore to me there isn’t anything more precious to have a day all about them.[♥]

Internet Safety Project - Public or Private Profile

Kids now a day’s must have their profiles set on private. Since teens are now at the age where they are staring to go out and able to do things a little bit more freely, they are most likely to be targeted by someone who wants to do something bad to them. Besides, not everything that you put on a social website is meant for the public. So by keeping the setting private makes everything you post safe. Also, for identity theft, by keeping your information private no one will be able to get into your stuff and mess things up. Furthermore, it’s also for stealing and for pretending to be someone else, and plus that’s totally illegal. In future I hope everyone will change their profile as private.

Dragons Den 7: Would You Rather?

I would rather get caught singing in the mirror than spying on my “crush.” Simply because I’m too old to be wasting my time spying on someone. Spying on people really isn’t fun because it’s so embarrassing when someone catches you then it’s just extremely weird. Then you don’t know what to say or do, talk about awkward. Besides, I would love for someone to catch me singing only because I have a super bad voice, so I think that would be hilarious. Plus, I’d rather not get caught licking a telephone or eating hair so compared to this its not so bad. Therefore, In the future I really hope someone catches me and my terrible voice.

The popularity in vampire movies are ridiculous and will eventually fade away. Right? Majority of people don’t like vampire movies because they are lame and vampires are definitely not real. Plus, there are so many other types of genres that people like. Also, people don’t like them because it doesn’t catch their attention For example, like most followers who like vampire’s may only like them because other people think its “cool.” Luckily, there will be a new trend for them to move onto.In addition, they don’t like them because people like reading a “good book” and not watching a terrible movie, therefore its totally reasonable.

    “Two Kinds” Character Analysis Paragraph

In the story “Two Kinds” Jing-mei is a typical ignorant little girl. Her mother thinks of her as unappreciative, due to lack of interest in her culture. Jin-mei acted just the way she was supposed to, I mean if you don’t want to something then you shouldn’t have to be forced to. Jing Mei’s “Peter pan hair cut” was something that made her stand out from all the other Chinese girls. Also, she thought she could get away with playing the piano, because her teacher was blind and that made her sneaky in way. She always felt that her mother was trying to force ethnicity on her as well. So, Jing-mei is like classic person she’s stubborn, and shows no gratitude and that’s ordinary.

    "Two Kinds" Mother-Daughter Conflict

In the conflict between Jing-mei and her mother, Jing-mei is right. The mother is supposed to be supportive. A good mother is not supposed to force her child to do something she doesn’t want to so. In addition, it’s even worse because the mother doesn’t even have a good enough excuse for Jing-mei playing the piano. Plus, the reason is so that the mom can brag to her friend Lindo Jong, about how good Jing-mei is "good" at piano, because her friend’s daughter is a chess champion. Jing-mei should learn to stick up for herself because if her own mother can run all over her then anyone will.

Dragons' Den First Semester Week 6: Campus Donations

The people who donated money and other supplies to us, couldn’t be any more generous. It’s so pleasant to have someone care for us, like they do. There’s so many other things those people can do but they rather offer these wonderful things to us.  Whenever I see them again I will obviously say how much I appreciate them. There’s nothing more precious then telling someone thank you. Some people now a day’s take things for granted, but in reality we all know that others don’t have what we have and to me I couldn’t be more thankful.

    Academic Language Practice Paragaph 6

Immigrants deserve to be citizens of this country. They are supposed to follow the rules for naturalization. Also, these rules can be SIMPLIFIED into steps. So, to become a citizen the first step is to get a background check. This is to basically VERIFY that the person isn’t a criminal. Second is for him or her to study the laws and customs of our country. Once that’s done they take a test and they get sworn in and receive their citizenship, and that’s the SEQUENCE of events. Lastly, to make the process easier they can by have the states pitch in, if possible.

    "Two Kinds" Jing-Mei's Shoes Paragraph

If someone was basically forcing me to play piano and I didn’t want to play, I would be completely honest and say no thanks. There’s no reason to lie. I know some people who just say yes to anything. For example, someone might buy you a present that you didn’t want but you still say that you liked it anyway because you didn’t want to hurt the persons feeling. In this case it’s messed up because in reality you didn’t. Therefore, I wouldn’t want to waste anyone’s time when there is actually a kid out there who really wants to learn how to play the piano.

"Two Kinds" Before You Read: Something You Don't Want to Do

I was at home and getting ready for my day to start off.  Problem is that I am always expected to make my bed before leaving for school but sometimes I don’t. I hate making my bed because it’s going to get messed up again, so there’s no reason to even do it. Consequences are given to me when I don’t make it. So from now on I try not being lazy and complain about it. I never would of thought  that just by having my room done it would make me happy because at the end of the day I get an award for it, so that’s pretty cool.

Academic Language Week 5 - Vaccinations

Yes, vaccinations should be required for all children.  If children do not get their shots they might test POSITIVE for diseases. The ESTIMATION of kids who don’t get the shot are most likely to get Chicken pox, whooping cough, or measles, etc. Also, when kids don’t get their shot it will spread to other kids in school and that’s not what parents want.  Therefore it’s so much easier to just get the shot. Side effects are nothing everyone gets side effects. For example, when people take aspirin there are side effects, but people still take it to. Why, because it supposed to make you feel better. So why not get the vaccination?

"Everyday Use" Before You Read: Tradition

Fifteen years from now I will be about 30 years old and probably have kids by then. For our tradition we will decorate the house on Christmas. This tradition involves hanging stockings, picking out a tree, and buying presents. One of my happy memories of this tradition is being with all of my family and just having fun. Sharing these traditions with kids will make them feel loved, and who doesn’t want to be loved. So, therefore by sharing this tradition with future generations, I hope people will like Christmas, as much as I do.

Dragons' Den First Semester Week 5: Life Lesson

A life lesson that I guess you can say I learned the hard way was going to Detox. I used to think that doing whatever it is that I was doing wasn't a bad thing. I was really ignorant and didn't care about anything. To me it wasn't a big deal because I am still a kid and this is was "regular" kids do, but obviously not. I have finally realized that was wrong. Know all I can is to try and solve this problem I have in front of me and so far I believe that I'm doing well.

    Research Paper Final Draft.

    Griselda S
    July 29, 2011
    Period 2
    Research Paper

Her Fashion Sense    When people think of Audrey Hepburn they think of what a great actress she was. Audrey was born Audrey Kathleen Ruston on the 4 of May, 1929 in Ixelles, in Belgium. She was the only child of Joseph Victor Anthony Ruston. He was an English banker from Ireland. Her mother was a Dutch baroness, Ella can Heemstra. Growing up Audrey was a ballet dancer, and she loved to act. Her first starring role was in “Roman Holiday.” She was more than just an actress, in the 50’s. She was also a humanitarian, and an icon. She liked fashion, but she never cared so much for it. So, how did Audrey Hepburn make fashion popular?

First thing you have to do in order to make anything popular is you have to get inspired, but in Audrey’s case she influenced many people. According to womens-fashion.lovetoknow.com they say, “Many of her clothes were inspired by the look of men's wear.” This being said shocked most people. Her styles of dresses were used in her films which were influenced by the fashion period as her clothes and accessories were widely imitated. Audrey’s wardrobe was known as a work of art.

Audrey became famous so fast; people had a lot to say about her. People were amazed with Audrey fashion sense. Audrey captured the imagination of millions of other women and to this day it still continues to have an impact. According to dailydivadish.com “the media made her stand out, which was exactly what she was trying to avoid.” She didn't want to be so popular, so known; she wanted to remain hidden. Media also, says that for most of her life, she had a love-hate relationship with food. They thought she had anorexia because of how thin she was. The media always has something to say.

Audrey could do it all. She was a ballet dancer, and actress, and she spoke many different languages fluently. Audrey made fashion popular by being who she was. Audrey once said, “I never think of myself as an icon. What is in other peoples minds is not in my mind. I just do my thing.” She like to be unique, she liked others to try and figure her out. According to secondcherry.com she was a style ground-breaker, she looked like herself and yet that made her a new type of beauty. Her design was mixed with her own spunky flair. Audrey was claimed to be fashionable in years to come.

Audrey remains one of the most beautiful women of all time. She influenced others, had great fashion sense and others viewed her as an icon. To the end of her short life, Audrey Hepburn was all about sleekness and sophistication in fashion. Trends come and go, but the Audrey Hepburn style remains popular.

    Romeo & Juliet Acts 4 & 5 Content Paragraph - Deaths

Romeo and Juliet died because they were stupid, also because of human errors. Romeo was banished, and Juliet was upset so she drank this potion that would put her in a coma for a few days, so that people will think she was dead, but instead when she wakes up she will be with Romeo. In order for Romeo to know this they had to send him a letter to tell him that Juliet is putting up an act, but because of human errors it didn’t reach him in time. Instead some guy thought that Juliet was really dead, and told Romeo before he got the letter. Romeo then went to the city where he was banished and found Juliet in her coma. Romeo was so upset so he poisoned himself to be with Juliet. Moments later Juliet wakes up from her coma and finds Romeo dead next to her. Juliet was so sad so, she tried drinking the leftover potion from Romeo but there was none left, as a replacement for that she stabbed herself. If the letter reached him in time none of this would have ever happened.

    “Romeo & Juliet” Love Letter – Acts 4 & 5

    Dear Romeo,
Today I went to go see fryer Lawrence, he said that he had some poison for me to take so that it can put in a coma for a day or tow. Also, I went to see my parents and apologized them. I just kept saying I was sorry. Romeo when time came I took potion, then I fell asleep later I woke you were next to me, dead. Oh how I love you. Romeo, I never knew you would risk your own life for me. I fail to notice that I miss you so much. I can't stand being without you. I will always know that we are each others.

    True or Forbidden Love

I think that Romeo and Juliet don’t truly love each other; furthermore, I don’t think they just like the idea doing something that is not allowed. Romeo and Juliet just like each other that is it. When Romeo first saw Juliet he was only physically attracted to her, in other words he thinks Juliet is attractive. Also, it’s the same thing with Juliet. To me love is out of the question. To love someone you have to obviously first actually know them. In this situation I would really have to think about getting married. Romeo and Juliet falling in love really means nothing, because that is not “love,” its no where near true love.

“Romeo & Juliet” Love Letter – Act 2

    Dear Romeo,
Wow, Romeo I could never be so happy. I am the luckiest girl in the world.  I can't believe we just got married. Everything was nice but I wonder what would happen if my family knew we got married. Hmm I wonder when they will find out. They would probably kill me. I just don’t understand why. Romeo, whatever happens doesn’t matter, we love each other. Yes, we can’t keep a secret forever, but I think the nurse or the fryer might go out and spill our beautiful news. Oh handsome Romeo, I hope for us to be together forever.

“Romeo & Juliet” Love Letter – Act 1

    Dear Romeo,
I was at the ball the other day and I just wanted to say that you should forget all about Rosaline. Yes, I know we cant be togther because I'm a Montuge and your a Capulete but, I love you. Romeo we are good for each other. When we first started talking I never would of known that your family is our enemy.  Oh Romeo, I'm so confused.  My crazy cousin is always starting  fights with your family.  Our parents despise each other. Don't you feel like nothing ever seems to be going right. I think our love can overcome all of these obsdtacles.  I hop to see you again.

Romeo and Juliet – Conflict in Verona and San Diego

Some conflicts that exist in Verona that could take place in San Diego today would be the typical arguing. Also, the fighting(physically), between first the men and then the whole family gets involved. Also, Romeo was being sad over Rosemary, who apparently doesn't like him. Last, but not least Juliette is supposed to get married to the Prince. She's not happy or sad about getting married at thirteen, she just accepted the situation. The whole Romeo and Julitte love thing, is relevant in modern life because there is always someone that you are going to like and that person may not feel the same for you, which in my perspective thinks that happens for a reason.

Kennedy Nonfiction: Before You Read - Primary or Secondary Source

I would rather read a primary source book about fascinating crime because its original. It's the firsthand account of an event. Also, it directs the thoughts of the writer thoroughly. It also expresses the feeling and emotions whether they were true or not. Furthermore, it included many details that an eyewitness can provide. For example, the diary of Anne Frank I have already read this story. Anne wrote down everything she felt, saw, thought into her diary. All the suffrering was wrote down in specific details. Primary and secondary sources are important they tell you where all your information is.

"Romeo & Juliet" Before You Read (Presentation & Notes)

Who was William Shakesphere? William Shakesphere was a beautiful poet and a play writer, and actor. He began writing plays when he was about 24 years old. More importantly he put many words that we commonly use today into the English language. He also, put them down in writing for the first time ever. If he didn't do this we would never have Romeo and Juliette, The Taming of The Shrew or words like elbow or helicopter, and many other amazing things. This topic is important because he created hundreds of words that we use every day plus he wrote stories that people still read and study today
