“The Grandfather” Three Meanings of the Tree Paragraph.

I think that the most symbolic item in "The Grandfather" is the avocado tree. The tree represents the grandfather because like the tree he is living. Also, for the narrator it represents strength because when the seed of the tree was growing into a stump, he was growing older into an adult. I feel that the grandfather's family stands for the avocados because a family doesn’t grow without kids; in this case the kids are the avocados. In other words the more the family grows. Families are like trees because as the tree ages some of the branches will pass away and decline, and more will appear.

  1. Griselda, I like how you compared an advacado tree to the grandfather.
